Cink's finishing touch is just good enough
Stewart Cink had a reputation as a good golfer who just couldn't finish off a tournament.
His final-round collapse in March in the PODS Championship left him with just one victory in the nine career events he led going into the last day.
On Sunday, he put that behind him, holding off Tommy Armour III and defending champion Hunter Mahan to win the Travelers Championship at Cromwell, Conn., by a stroke. With his fifth career victory, Cink was projected to go to a career-high No. 6 in the world ranking.
Cink, also the 1997 winner at TPC River Highlands, shot a 3-under 67 — following rounds of 66, 64 and 65 — to finish at 18-under 262 for his first victory since 2004.
Armour (65) and Mahan (65) tied for second.
Ji captures first LPGA victory: Eun-Hee Ji won the Wegmans LPGA for her first LPGA Tour title, rallying to beat Suzann Pettersen by two strokes at Rochester, N.Y.
The South Korean shot a 5-under 67 to finish at 16-under 272 on the tricky Locust Hill course. A 22-year-old in her second year on the tour, Ji finished second to Pettersen in South Korea in October in the Kolon Championship.
Pettersen shot a 72 and surrendered a three-stroke lead on a sunny, 75-degree day.
Sluman claims first Champions Tour win: Jeff Sluman won the Bank of America Championship at Concord, Mass., for his first Champions Tour title, finishing off an 8-under 64 with a 34-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th hole for a two-stroke victory over Loren Roberts.
Sluman birdied three of the last four holes and finished at 17-under 199 total. The 64 was the best final round by a winner on the tour this year.
Kaymer beats Hansen in BMW playoff: Martin Kaymer became the first German winner in BMW International Open history, birdieing the first hole of a playoff with Denmark's Anders Hansen after blowing a six-stroke lead in the final round at Munich, Germany.
Lyle moves one win from reaching PGA Tour: Australia's Jarrod Lyle won his second Nationwide Tour title of the year to move within a victory of a promotion to the PGA Tour, beating Chris Kirk with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff in the Knoxville (Tenn.) Open.
