2-year-old burned by fire pit, hospitalized
A 2-year-old boy at Lake Piru with his family on Saturday suffered second- and third-degree burns to his abdomen and hands, authorities said.
The boy and his mother were flown to Simi Valley Hospital by helicopter after he accidentally fell into a fire pit at one of the campgrounds, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
The family lives in Van Nuys, officials said. The helicopter was sent about 12:45 p.m. and landed in the parking lot near the lake's main boat launch ramp.
