Two eagles help Cink take lead at Travelers

Stewart Cink moved to the top of the Travelers Championship leaderboard Friday at Cromwell, Conn., making two long eagle putts in a 6-under 64 that left him a stroke ahead of defending champion Hunter Mahan and two others.

Cink, the 1997 winner at TPC River Highlands, is seeking his first victory of the season after six top-10 finishes.

Pressel shoots 65 at Wegmans LPGA: Morgan Pressel shot a 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead over Suzann Pettersen midway through the Wegmans LPGA at Rochester, N.Y.

Pressel, the youngest major winner in LPGA Tour history, had a second bogey-free round to break open a leaderboard logjam and get to 10-under 134.

Kite equals course record: Tom Kite matched the course record with a 9-under 63 to take the first-round lead in the Bank of America Championship at Concord, Mass.

Kaymer leads at Munich: Germany's Martin Kaymer shot a 9-under 63 to take a five-stroke lead after the second round of the BMW International Open at Munich, Germany.

Mickelson to play in Skins Game: Phil Mickelson has agreed to compete in the LG Skins Game, the first time in five years the three-time major champion will play in the oldest event of the silly season.

NBA demands $1.4 million from disgraced ref Donaghy

The NBA wants disgraced referee Tim Donaghy to pay the league $1.4 million, including his wages for games on which he bet or provided inside tips to gamblers.

The written demand, filed in federal court, asks a judge to force Donaghy to pay the sum as restitution in his gambling case.

Querrey to play Ferrero in first round at Wimbledon

Thousand Oaks' Sam Querrey will play Juan Carlos Ferrero in the first round of Wimbledon, which starts Monday. Ferrero is ranked No. 23 on the ATP Tour and is the No. 21 seed. Ferrero is also a former French Open champion.

Petrova and Radwanska reach Eastbourne final: Nadia Petrova defeated Samantha Stosur 6-3, 6-3 to reach the final of the Eastbourne (England) International Women's Open.

The eighth-seeded Russian will face fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska, who upset No. 2 Marion Bartoli 7-5, 6-3.

Karlovic advances to Nottingham finals: Defending champion Ivo Karlovic of Cratia beat Gael Monfils of France 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) to reach the Nottingham (England) Open final.

The fourth-seeded Karlovic will play third-seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain, who beat Marin Cilic of Croatia 6-3, 6-1 in the other semifinal in the Wimbledon tuneup.

Ferrer, Gicquel reach finals at Ordina: Top-seeded David Ferrer defeated Juan Martin Del Potro 7-6 (4), 6-1 to set up a final against Marc Gicquel in the Ordina Open at Den Bosch, Netherlands.

On the women's side, French Open finalist Dinara Safina upset top-seeded Elena Dementieva 6-3, 6-2. Safina will play Thai qualifier Tamarine Tanasugarn, who defeated Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-2, 6-4.

Thrashers hire Anderson as new coach

John Anderson has been hired as coach of the Atlanta Thrashers after leading their top affiliate to the American Hockey League championship.

Anderson is the fourth coach in Thrashers history. He takes over from general manager Don Waddell, who served as interim coach after firing Bob Hartley early last season.

Report: NFL Network, ESPN discussing a partnership

The NFL Network and Walt Disney Co.'s ESPN are in talks about forming a partnership, The Wall Street Journal reported.

A deal could end a long standoff between the league and cable carriers, some of whom said the NFL was asking them to pay too much for its programming.

college basketball

Former Fresno State coach Lopes hired as Idaho assistant

Former Fresno State basketball coach Ray Lopes, who lost his job because of recruiting violations, has been hired as an assistant basketball coach at Idaho.

Lopes spent the past two years as associate head coach of the minor league Idaho Stampede in Boise. The team finished 36-14 last season on its way to the 2007-08 NBA D League Championship.

Sports broadcaster Pat Summerall was recovering from emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding, his wife said.

Benson earns Truck Series victory at Milwaukee Mile

After weathering a brief delay for lightning, Johnny Benson bolted away to win the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series victory at the Milwaukee Mile.

It was the third straight truck series victory at the track for Benson, who held onto his lead in the series points standings.
