Jeremy White, who is accused of killing a Phoenix man and severely injuring a California Highway Patrol officer last year in a crash on Highway 101 near Ventura, made a brief court appearance Thursday.

Ventura County Superior Court Judge Kevin McGee set a pretrial hearing for July 29. He scheduled White's jury trial for Sept. 5.

McGee also authorized the release of the medical records to prosecutor Scott Hendrickson. The records were obtained from White's doctor through a subpoena. Hendrickson declined to say in what city the doctor's office was located.

Hendrickson also said the court allowed White's blood samples to be released to his lawyer for independent testing.

White, 20, of Paso Robles is in custody on $500,000 bail and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He is facing three felony counts: gross vehicular manslaughter; driving under the influence, causing an injury, refusing to take a chemical test; and selling or transporting marijuana.

Also, he faces several allegations, including causing great bodily injury resulting in brain injury and paralysis, and causing injury or death to more than one person.

Forensic scientists testified at a preliminary hearing April 1 that blood tests indicated Ecstasy and marijuana were found in White's blood.

The crash killed Andreas Parra, 20, and critically injured CHP motorcycle Officer Anthony Pedeferri, 36.

Pedeferri, an 11-year veteran of the CHP and an accomplished triathlete, is in a hospital for rehabilitation, officials said.
