County approves projects totaling $260 million
A top 10 list of major new capital projects for the county of Ventura was unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
The projects are planned for the coming five years and have a collective cost of nearly $260 million. A $22.4 million juvenile justice office complex is near the top of the list. A $132.5 million expansion of Todd Road Jail also is on the list, but money has not yet been allocated to the project.
Other projects include a Piru burn dump repair for $1.4 million; a county microwave infrastructure upgrade for $6.1 million; a remodeling of the work furlough housing facility for $4.013 million; a Colston Building renovation for $3 million; an upgrade or replacement of the property tax computer system for $23.7 million; and upgrades for the Ventura County Financial Management System for $10 million to $15 million.
The projects were chosen by a committee of county officials.
A project's placement on the list does not ensure it will be completed. The Board of Supervisors can change priorities as it sees fit.

"replacement of the property tax computer system for $23.7 million; and upgrades for the Ventura County Financial Management System for $10 million to $15 million"
WOW, those must be some seriously high-end computer systems at that price! I know software implementation can be expensive, but geez...

THX1138...trust me, they are by no means "high-end" computers! The cost is probably so high because the County is so far behind with the times as far as technology goes. I was a County worker and used to work with the Financial Management System (VCFMS)and it was horrible! I hope they plan on getting a system that actually works.

New, customized computer software management systems are EXTREMELY expensive. Millions of dollars sounds about right.

I'm scared about the property tax computer systems replacement project. 95% of the time when a computer system is being replaced, the "bugs" have to be worked out. This means that the new systems are not oging to work exactly as intended and most likely many will suffer incorrect billings or the like. Have fun property owners!!
