High school gets prize for Web site

Simi Valley High School students have won the statewide Career Technical Education Web Page Design Competition, state Department of Education officials announced Monday.

Simi Valley High was selected from nine schools that entered the competition to create a Web site that would provide visual appeal, accessibility and usability for the state's Career Technical Education programs. The school's winning design will enhance the site at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/ct, officials said Monday.

"These students have designed a wonderful example site for career technical education information in the state," state schools Superintendent Jack O'Connell said in a news release. "This Web site will help us prepare all students for the more globally competitive jobs of the future, whether they go straight into the work force after graduating from high school or to college."

Simi Valley High provides various career technical classes for its students, from computer science to business education. Many of the classes are offered through the Ventura County Office of Education's Regional Occupational Program.

"This is a huge honor for us, because it shows the expertise of our CTE teacher and the quality of work of our students in this career field," Principal Steve Pietrolungo said.
