Designed to display all of the finishing touches

Travelling down Highway 118 through the heart of Ventura County there is an enclave commonly known as Somis. This beautiful area is surrounded by the rural scenery and equestrian properties. Quiet, serene and still blessed with the gorgeous weather that Ventura County is famous for and the ease of access to the ocean to the west, or the city to the south, Somis is a hideaway that can't be missed.

Just off of Highway 118 on La Cumbre Road is a family home tucked away in the landscape that exudes luxury from every corner.

Passing through the decorative iron gate, drive down the long driveway and an expansive lot is unveiled. To the left is the charming home with a large, tri-level yard that rolls down to a path leading to the equestrian facilities that surround the area.

Lofty and bright, this home appears to have two-stories from the outside, but the design was intended allow for an airy space with high ceilings that give the home a more spacious feel. Built in 2004 by a contractor who lives in the neighborhood, the present homeowners say that it was created with the intention of being "a fully finished house," and the builders did not miss an opportunity to add those extra finishing touches to the home.

Enter through a covered porch that is adorned with columns that bring an immediate sense of sophistication to the house. The space is airy without giving any sense of pretentiousness. From the beautifully tiled entry way, take a moment to appreciate the light which floods the great room from all angles.

To the right, a large formal dining room with a huge window that faces the front of the house. Soffitted ceilings, graced with crown molding that runs through the whole house make this an elegant space.

Step onto the bamboo floors, also running through the entirety of the living space, and move just a few steps forward into a gorgeous living room. Separated from the dining area and entry by columns, there is a charming elegance about the room that carries through the whole house. Two windows which are nearly floor to ceiling in height border a fireplace made of used bricks and blessed with a hardwood mantel piece bringing warmth to the room.

Adjacent to the living room, through an arched doorway, is the kitchen which includes black granite counter tops and new cabinets with a warm, medium oak finish.

A butler's pantry makes function convenient in the space as well as providing extra storage space. A bar separating the kitchen from a breakfast nook make for an added gathering place during meal preparation or for serving food at gatherings.

The owners say they love the flow of this home and the space it provides for large groups. From this breakfast area, a sliding glass door leads to the backyard continuing the flow to the outdoors.

"That's the great thing about living in Southern California," the owner said. "You can throw parties that move indoors and out."

Here you will find one of two outdoor seating areas that grace the top tier of the multi-level, park-like yard. Move to the edge of the house and find the second seating area where there is a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains and the gazebo below that lends itself to more romantic gatherings. There also is a volleyball court and plenty of space for a small lap pool or a hot tub.

Back inside the house, off of the entry, is a short hallway that leads to two bedrooms and a bathroom. Both bedrooms are adorned with large windows allowing an abundance of light into the space. Like the rest of the house, the ceilings in the room are high, and the tall windows make the already large spaces seem even larger.

On the other end of the house is a large mud room that also is equipped as a laundry room, as well as the master suite.

The master suite features a large walk-in closet with built-in shoe racks and storage. Here there is another large window like the others that grace this home allowing tons of light into the room and a glorious view of the large yard. The master bathroom includes granite counter tops and decorative tiles in the shower, adding to the luxury of this retreat. There also is a large whirlpool tub for relaxation.

Every niche of this home is graced with upgrades and finishing touches that add to the elegance of the space itself, the property and of course, the surrounding area. "This is the only house I have ever seen that even has crown molding in the garage," the homeowner said.

The residence also features a two-car garage and a complete RV hookup just outside. There is plenty of parking along the driveway for any number of guests, and easy access to Highways 118 and 34 to Camarillo.
