Navy League of the United States, Channel Islands Council held its 41st Annual Military Awards recognition dinner on Thursday, May 15, 2008. Judy Quinn, president of Channel Islands Council introduced the Honorable B. J. Penn, Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Installations and Environment. Quinn presented a history book, Navy League of the United States, to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy. He assisted with the presentation of awards and congratulated each outstanding winner.Eight young members of the maritime services were recognized as representatives of all the men and women serving in the military in Ventura County. In addition, four youths representing the NJROTC, U.S. Naval Sea Cadets and U.S. Navy League Cadets were recognized. Winners received a check, Channel Islands Council's commemorative coin, certificates of recognition from local elected officials, gifts from sponsors, and a history book, Navy League of the United States. More than 180 attended the awards dinner. Military, community, business representatives, elected officals, family and friends attended the awards dinner at the Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach Resort in Oxnard, California.
