Editorial: Ventura hits the books
Most know actor Kevin Costner is in town Saturday for the premiere of "Swing Vote." But before fans crowd into downtown Ventura for the fun events and free concert, they should first hit the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach Hotel for the city's annual Book Festival.
Saturday's festival, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is free and open to the public. It is billed as a family affair, with a children's hour from noon to 1 p.m.
The local nonprofit California Literary Arts Society plans hourly seminars, panels, book signings, exhibits of book sellers, authors, library groups, book clubs and more. Author Andrew Klavan of Santa Barbara, who will hold a seminar on differences between men's and women's fiction, told Star correspondent Alicia Doyle: "You step out of your door, and there are all these brilliant and talented authors waiting to entertain you virtually on your front lawn."
Thanks to the Literary Arts Society for this gift.
