Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham will release his second solo album in two years Sept. 16. "Gift of Screws" features Buckingham backed on several tracks by his Fleetwood Mac bandmates John McVie (bass) and Mick Fleetwood (drums). He'll promote the CD with a Sept. 14 concert at UCLA's Royce Hall.
Rhino will release expanded reissues of the Replacements' final four albums Sept. 23 for Sire Records. Each album features a host of previously unreleased bonus tracks; the entire reissue catalog will also see digital release the same day.
Earth, Wind & Fire appears likely to follow the Eagles and Journey in making its next album exclusively for a major retailer. Frontman Philip Bailey says the group is planning a three-disc package like Journey's recent "Revelation." The set, which EWF hopes to release in mid-2009, is expected to include a CD of original material — its first since "Illumination" in 2004 — a live CD and a concert DVD.
Britney Spears is "spending her summer in the recording studio" to work on her next album, according to a statement from Jive Records. The yet-to-be-named disc will be the follow-up to last year's "Blackout," which has sold 879,000 copies.
Every song from Metallica's upcoming album "Death Magnetic" will be available for gamers to download and play on "Guitar Hero III" on the same day that it is released to retail.
