VCGA to have College Preview at Wood Ranch on Aug. 4
The Ventura County Junior Golf Association is conducting its inaugural College Preview Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley on Aug. 4.
Similar to a college or USGA qualifier, 36 holes will be played over one day. While play is by invitation only, high school golfers may request an invitation by submitting a résumé to the VCJGA by e-mail at tourinfo@vcjga.com.
Players must demonstrate an ability to shoot sub-80 scores or better in a high school tournament or other sanctioned event. The field will be limited to 50 players.
Cost for VCJGA members is $149, others $169. The VCJGA has invited golf coaches from all local and regional colleges and universities to attend.
"There is a lot of talk about golf combines, and the best way to showcase a player's ability to compete at the next level is to play a university caliber course in a college oriented format," said event organizer Bruce Beck said. "Next year we hope to grow the College Preview to a 54-hole event with 36 played on Day 1 and the final 18 holes played on Day 2, the way 95 percent of college events are run."
