'Books in the Barn' story time is slated

The Kiwanis Club of Conejo Valley and Ride On Therapeutic Horsemanship will team up to present "Books in the Barn" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Ride On, 401 Ronel Court, Newbury Park.

This free event will be for children ages 2 to 8 and includes storytelling in the barn, making sock horses that children can take home, petting a pony and refreshments. Children's books will be available for sale, with a portion of all proceeds being donated to Ride On.

"This is a wonderful family event and an opportunity to entertain children with two favorite activities, the love of horses and reading," said Ken Walker, club president.

"This unique event will include storytelling, arts and crafts, and petting a real pony."

Ride On Therapeutic Horsemanship teaches horseback riding to children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. Ride On is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit corporation serving 170 riders each week at two ranches, located in Newbury Park and Chatsworth. It has 10 certified riding instructors and six therapists and is recognized as a North American Riding for the Handicapped Association premier accredited center. The Newbury Park site on Ronel Court is on a 13-acre ranch operated in partnership with the Conejo Recreation and Park District.

Books in the Barn is open to the public but has limited space. For more information and reservations, contact Sara Jones at 375-9078 or info@rideon.org. For information on North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, visit http://www.narha.org.
