Mayor Christy Weir gives Troy the key to the city

This past Saturday the 19th Troy Dumais made an appearance at the Ventura Aquatic Center. This Ventura native was greeted with open arms by the people and received waves of applause after giving a touching speech. Mayor Christy Weir awarded Troy with the key to the city and congratulating him on his accomplishments. After the speeches concluded Troy stayed and signed autographs and took pictures with fans while Nick H, the head dive instructor, lead a diving clinic.

Troy is a two-time Olympian headed into his third Olympics, this time in Beijing, but his dreams and aspirations started right here in the heart of Ventura. As one of five siblings Troy comes from a family of achievers. His brothers Justin, Brice, and Dwight and his sister Leanne all graduated high school with either academic or athletic prestige. Some of the boys, Troy included, still hold Buena's CIF titles. When asked how it had been to raise such talented kids Mrs. Dumais said, "The process was difficult-with many peaks and valleys-but I am so thankful."

Troy Dumais is an inspiration to athletes of any age and it was a great honor to have him visit us at the Ventura Aquatic Center. We all wish him the best in the upcoming Olympics and hope that he continues to succeed throughout his career. Troy also had warm words for those who came out to see him, saying, "Have fun and always strive for your dreams and live life with no regrets!"
