NORTH OXNARD WINS CHAMPIONSHIP

AYSO National Games in Honolulu

Highlights: North Oxnard — The North Oxnard boys' under-14 team won the gold medal in the national games. Ray Amaro, an assistant coach, said it was the highest finish for the under-14 age division in AYSO Area 10W for teams in the National Games. The Oxnard players are Spencer Agee, Tom Martinez, Emiliano Amaro, Harrison Crawford, Peter Delgado, Fernando Diaz, Matthew Gintjee, Joaquin Guzman, Benjamin Herrera, Matthew Lopez, Robert Viveros, Andrew Wheat and Anthont Zavala. Tom Gintjee and Ray Amaro are coaches.

CAMARILLO FINISHES THIRD

AYSO National Games in Honolulu

Highlights: Camarillo — The Camarillo AYSO Region 68 boys' under-12 National Games tournament team finished in third place at the 2008 National Games in Honolulu, the highest finish ever for Region 68 boys' under-12. The games started with opening ceremonies July 8 and concluded with the championship finals on Sunday afternoon. The National Games included 181 teams from 17 states in four age groups. Each of the boys played in two Soccerfest games on July 9. The Soccerfest teams were comprised of 12 players from different national games participants, who then played two friendly games against other mixed teams. The boys finished pool play with a 50 record, having yielded only one goal and scoring 19. Pool play results: Sandy/Draper, Utah, 40; West Palm Beach, Fla., 2-0; Rancho Cucamonga, 5-0; Aliso Viejo, CA, 2-1; Leeward, Hawaii, 6-0. Camarillo then defeated Pacific Palisades, 5-1, in the quarterfinal match, Saturday afternoon with the opponent's lone goal coming off a penalty kick. Camarillo's only National Games loss occurred in the semifinal game against Newbury Park, Sunday morning. This game was tied 1-1 until Newbury Park scored on a penalty kick with only minutes remaining to win the game 2-1. Camarillo then beat West Palm Beach, 2-1 in the third-place game Sunday afternoon. Overall, the team scored 27 goals in eight games and gave up only five. This was a testament to the outstanding goalkeeping of Andrew Cordova and the solid defense provided by William Huebner, Gregory Ford, Frederick Pond, and Andrew Magiera. The game-controlling midfielders included Neil Van Splinter, Kishen Majithia, and Nathaniel Seeba. The prodigious scoring forwards included Alejandro Arechiga, Christian Welsh and Ian Jones. The goals were scored by Van Splinter (seven), Welsh (seven), Arechiga (five), Huebner (three), Jones (two), Majithia (two) and Cordova. The team, coached by Gregg Van Splinter and John Huebner, has been together since March 2008 and competed in eight tournaments including the National Games, finishing in the trophy rounds in seven of the eight tournaments, finishing fourth, third twice, second twice and two championships.

NORTH OXNARD, VENTURA HOME

AYSO National Games

The North Oxnard Region 304 boys' under-19 teams finished third and Ventura also competed in the tournament. Newbury Park was one of 180 teams in the event and captured the boys' championship in the under-12 division. California sent the most teams — 65 — to Hawaii.

SOFTBALL

SIMI VALLEY GIRLS PLAN FUNDRAISER

The 10-and-under Simi Valley Gold All-Stars will hold a fundraiser today and Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. to closing at Cronies in Simi Valley, Mention 10 Gold when placing an order. Simi Valley finished fifth in the California States Games in San Diego July 11-13. The Western B National Championships will be July 27 to Aug. 3. The Simi Valley players are Breanna Burke, Leila Bolton, Emily Chandler, Haley Cheek, Taylor Ginther, Alexis Hoff, Amanda Lorenz, Melissa Miller, Rylee Reynolds, Kassidy Simons, Jules Trombley and Audrey Vigo. Simi Valley is seeking all tax-deductible donations to assist the girls in the quest to bring home the national championship. Donations may be sent to SVGS, P.O. SIMI VALLEY GIRLS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP

The Simi Gold 10-and-under All-Stars defeated Santa Ana, 12-2, to win the North Torrance Tournament on Sunday. Simi Valley (34-5-2) has scored 217 runs, allowed 52 and recorded 19 shutouts. Simi Valley had wins over West Valley, 7-1, Simi Vallley Silver, 8-0 and West Valley, 12-2.

ELKS TIDE PLACE FOURTH

The Santa Barbara Elks Tide 12-and-under "A" Travel Team finished in fourth place last week in the NSA Fastpitch Western World Series in Reno, Nevada. The players are Natalee "Gator" Bloss , Valerie Centeno, Malorie Martinez, Kiana Viramontes, Bryanna Galvan, Andrea Payne, Shelby Jacobsen, Andie O'Donnell, Talia Quevedo, Meagan Clark, and Elise Dominguez. Head coach is Nancy Eckert, assisted by Roger Bloss, and Dale Okinaka. Noteworthy hits came from Bloss (two triples, three doubles), and a batting average of .736 for the series. Highlighted hits also came from Clark, Jacobsen, Centeno, Viramontes, and Quevedo. Centeno, Clark and Jacobsen pitched great games, with O'Donnell strong behind the plate throughout the entire tournament.

VENTURA COUNTY MAYHEM PLACES FIFTH

The Ventura County Mayhem returned from Park City, Utah, with a fifth-place finish in the Triple Crown World Series, A' Division. In pool play, the Mayhem went undefeated defeating the Revenge 9-0, Monterey Mad Dogs, 6-5 Lady Outlaws,and the Desert Thunder, 5-4. In double-elimination, the Mayhem defeated the Mize Diamonds, 10-3, and Sudden Impact, 10-2. The Stingers defeated the Mayhem, 5-4, in extra innings. The Stingers went on to win the championship. The Mayhem lost another tiebreaker game, 6-5, against the Athletics. Lexi Jacoby made a big catch against the Stingers. Lindsay Dietz took first in the long-ball hitting contest. Kahala Bonsignore and Dani Marietta were named to the all-tournament team. The Mayheam had 64 hits in. Bonsignore batted .556, Mariah Reneau hit .438, and Lindsay Diet, Sarah Langley and Rieanne Thomas each hit .400. Other players A.J, Bates. Brittany Perez, Dani Pulido, Shelbie Frame nd Chase Robledo. The coaches are Robrert Dietz and Dean Marietta.
