Bear tranquilized, returned to wild
A large bear that wandered into a neighborhood outside Ojai on Monday morning was tranquilized and released back into the wild after it spent several hours in a tree, authorities said.
Ventura County sheriff's deputies responded about 7:30 a.m. to a report of a large bear in the 400 block of Lomita Avenue in Meiners Oaks.
The bear climbed a tree about a block away, in the 500 block of Pala Drive, where deputies kept watch over the animal for several hours, sheriff's Capt. Ross Bonfiglio said.
Officials from the California Department of Fish and Game tranquilized the bear about 10:30 a.m. It was then taken to a remote location and released, Bonfiglio said.
