Governor signs bill to aid cemetary plan
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a bill allowing the city of Simi Valley to develop and operate a cemetery larger than 5 acres.
Assembly Bill 1932 was introduced in February by Assemblyman Cameron Smith, R-Santa Clarita. The governor signed the bill last week.
Simi Valley has three cemeteries, but only one, Simi Valley Public Cemetery, is nonsectarian. Commonly called Pioneer Cemetery, the facility is near capacity. City leaders are considering plans to build another public cemetery, but current state law prohibits cities from operating one larger than 5 acres, hence the legislation.
