Youth Baseball: Newbury Park PONY All-Stars unbeaten in Super Regional

A Newbury Park win tonight in the semifinal bracket guarantees a berth in the championship game and the opportunity to move on to this weekend's West Zone Tournament in Fullerton.
Newbury Park defeated West Covina, 6-2, behind the strong pitching of Jack Duncan. Scott Caliguiri, Brison Cronenbold and Chris Murphree drove in runs.
On Saturday, Newbury Park defeated Long Beach, 7-4. Murphree was the winning pitcher and Casey Hershfield was the closer. Duncan had three hits, including a grand slam and a double.
The West Zone champion advances to the PONY World Series in Chino Hills. The Simi Youth All-Stars won the World Series a year ago.
Montalvo prevails: The Montalvo Junior All-Stars won their opening game, 19-9 over Encino in the Sub-Division 3 North Tournament at Conejo Creek in Thousand Oaks. Montalvo plays today at 5 p.m. against Murphy Ranch, a 14-4 winner over San Dimas. Montalvo had 21 hits and is two wins away from advancing to the Western Regionals this weekend in Aliso Viejo.
Thousand Oaks rolls: Michael Abraham hit two homers and added a two-run double to account for six runs in a 12-2, five-inning mercy win over Burbank in the 10-year-old Sub-Division 3 Tournament at Moorpark Little League. Thousand Oaks won the District 13 and Section 1 championships.
Thousand Oaks plays today at 5 p.m.
Dos Pueblos wins: The 12-year-old Dos Pueblos Little League All-Stars earned 5-2 Sub-Division Tournament win over South Pasadena. Dos Pueblos (12-1) was coming off back-to-back shutout wins over Thousand Oaks in the Section 1 Tournament at Moorpark. Dos Pueblos, the District 63 champion, plays today at 5 p.m. at Handy Park in Orange.
Port Hueneme wins: The Port Hueneme Senior League All-Stars defeated Lawndale, 12-1. Port Hueneme, the District 13 champion, played Buena Park Sunday night. Port Hueneme is 5-0. There was no Section 1 Tournament for Port Hueneme.
