Community nonprofit organizations can apply for grants from the Thousand Oaks Community Events Endowment Fund.
The application period will run from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, city representative Mary Lech said. The city earmarks $100,000 annually to be awarded to local nonprofits for arts and other events that benefit organizations within the city or help promote the city, she said.
To be eligible, events or activities must occur between July 1 and June 30. Lech said applications will be reviewed in October by the council- appointed funding review committee, whose members will forward recommendations to the council for approval. For information, contact the library's Jana Covell at 449-2660, ext. 258, or e-mail her at jcovell@mx.tol.lib.ca.us.
Criteria and applications are available from the City Manager's Office and the City Clerk's Office, both at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza; the Grant R. Brimhall Library in Thousand Oaks; the Newbury Park Branch Library; and online at the city's Web site at http://www.toaks.org/city_hall/depts/city_manager/ceef.asp.

"The city earmarks $100,000 annually to be awarded to local nonprofits for arts and other events that benefit organizations within the city or help promote the city."...
So let me see if I have this correct: The T.O. City Council allocates $100k annually to help local non-profit groups within our city, which is indeed a most worthy expenditure of our tax monies. HOWEVER, the T.O. City Council also spends a wee bit more... approximately $109k of our tax monies a year... to operate & maintain a Day Labor Site whose sole purpose is to unlawfully provide aid to illegal aliens as they openly seek employment.
Doesn't it bother anyone else out there that our T.O. City Council spends more each year on supporting illegal aliens and their day labor site than they do to support non-profits in our city?
