The Ventura County Fusion men's soccer team overcame the disappointment of missing out on the Premier Development League playoffs for the second straight season by defeating the Los Angeles Legends, 2-1, Sunday night at Citrus College in Glendora.

Hagop Chirishian and Jeff Meyer scored first-half goals as the Fusion (8-5-3) completed its second campaign in third place in the Southwest Division with 27 points and a better goal difference than San Francisco.

For the second straight season, San Fernando Valley and Fresno will represent the division in the postseason.

Chirishian's opening goal, assisted by Brian Byrne, made the Pasadena City College striker the Fusion's leading scorer with four goals for the season, breaking a three-way tie with Rodrigo Lopez and Artur Aghasyan.

Young midfielder Danny Barrera capped a strong finish to the season with an assist on Meyer's 30th minute goal.

The Ventura County Fusion women's team wrapped up a frustrating season on a difficult note, allowing a late goal to fall 2-1 to the Legends.

The goal allowed the fellow expansion franchise to leapfrog the Fusion (1-10-1) at the base standings, which meant Ventura County completed its first W-League season at the bottom of the Western Conference.

Shari Nishikawa scored the Fusion's lone goal. It was the first win for Los Angeles (1-9-2).

Conference champion Pali Blues completed a perfect 12-0 season and earned a bye to the W-League national semifinals later this month in Virginia Beach.
