Police are seeking assailant in stabbing

A person suffered minor stab wounds in the back Friday night during an attack by a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants, according to the Oxnard Police Department.

Police received a call at 10:01 p.m. Friday about an armed robbery in the 5100 block of Perkins Road. The caller described the suspect's clothing and the weapon, a black knife.

When police arrived, the victim was transported to St. John's Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Police have not released the gender or name of the victim and are still investigating. No arrests have been made.

While searching for the suspect, four officers suffered minor to moderate injuries in an altercation with Tony Edward Powell, 48, of Oxnard, according to police. Powell was arrested on suspicion of willfully resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer in the discharge of duties. He has been released from Ventura County Jail on bond and faces an Aug. 18 court date.

Officials said it is too early to tell if the Friday evening armed robbery is connected to armed robberies reported Wednesday at 9:05 p.m. on Grande Street and Hermosa Way, and 9:15 p.m. Thursday at Bard Road and Anchorage Street.

These cops are so stupid. Instead of looking for the suspect, they waste their time arresting a citizen that most likely had nothing to do with the stabbing. Get over yourselves and ur egos and prioritize ur work. Armed robbery and a stabbing is much worse than "suspicion of willfully resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer in the discharge of duties."

LAMES.

Perkins?? If your walking in a bad area things like this will happen. If one man injures 4 police officers than our officers are fat and out of shape.

jgonzales80530,

You're STUPID and an idiot!

The arrest and charges only came about as a result of the actions of the 'CITIZEN', as you put it.

Police didn't walk up to him and say, "we're arresting you on suspicion of willfully resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer in the discharge of our duties", as the paper wrote and you reiterated.

This guy's clothing matched the description of the suspect at large and he was only a block away from the crime scene. So the police were doing their job! They were actively looking for the suspect when they came across this guy.

When police approached this guy to talk to him, he punched an officer and bolted. They caught and arrested him. Thus charging him with the crimes he committed against the officers involved.

The fact that he punched the officer first for no reason, is what got him into trouble. Why did he do that? What was he hiding? The officers weren't aggressive with him at all, they only wanted to talk to him to see if he had anything to do with the stabbing and robbery.

THAT'S DOING THEIR JOB!

So you see LAME brain, how wrong you can be by assuming that you know what actually happened when you really don't.

So you get over yourself, and YOUR ego, and prioritize your thinking and making assumptions before opening your mouth. Or, in this case before you start typing.

LAME...

lilmamma,

You're stupid too!

But I also blame the newspaper for saying it was an 'altercation'.

An altercation is simply a heated or angry dispute.

This was much more than that. This guy punched an officer first, ran and then the fight was on. He was very big and on some kind of drug. The suspects strength was incredible almost like he was on PCP!

It took a few officers to subdue him without hurting him, even though he started it. Because of Powell's attack on the officer(s), he is lucky he went to jail with only cuffs.

I commend the officers for doing their job correctly and without trying to actually hurt the suspect, despite being attacked by Powell. Infact, the officers were the ones injured by Powell. He has no rules to live by, the officers do.

Had he been left with cuts and bruises it would have been understandable and justified, but he wasn't. The officers exercised their judgement in a professional manner and just simply got him under control and under arrest.

By the way, none of the officers involved were fat and out of shape.

You must be looking in the mirror!

In this particular case, I witnessed the event from beginning to end.

Once again, the officers involved did a great job getting this guy under control. It all happened so fast, as I stated earlier, Powell hit the officer with no warning, just like that!

Police are in a thankless job and constantly taking heat from the public.

People are constantly making judgements with little or no facts, as did jgonzales80530 and lilmamma.

Some peoples lives must be so mundane, that they spice it up by making things up and feeling like they accomplished or contributed something, even if it isn't truthful or without merit.

WOW!! Oxnard is back at again. For awhile there it seemed like someone was cleaning the place up, but I guess it's back to business as usual in the 'Nard.
