33 arrested, warrants served in sweep

Ammunition and a sawed-off shotgun were seized and 33 people arrested — six of them juveniles — Friday during a Ventura County Sheriff's Department Gang Unit "enforcement sweep" that involved more than 75 officers from multiple agencies.

The sweep, which started at 2 p.m. and continued through midnight, included the serving of six search warrants in the city of Ventura and the community of Saticoy.

According to a Ventura County Sheriff's Department news release, the search warrants were part of an investigation into two recent Saticoy gang-related robberies. The warrants were served in the 11000 block of Aster Street, the 1200 block of Alelia Avenue, the 11000 block of Violeta Street, the 900 block of Olympia Avenue and at two residences in the 11400 block of Nardo Street.

More than 70 residences were visited by law enforcement officers during the two-pronged operation, which included probation and parole searches in the communities of Saticoy, El Rio and Nyeland Acres. In some cases, the searches were conducted by officers on horseback.

Those arrested ranged in ages from 15 to 50.

They were charged with crimes such as violation of parole, narcotics possession, robbery, marijuana cultivation, resisting arrest and possession of a deadly weapon.

Keep up the good work. I wish our tax $ didn't have to be spent to control these low life dirt bags, but it's the sad reality of it I'm afraid.

That was alot of tax $$$$$, There were two murders in 2006 in Saticoy. I'm wondering if they have spent that much $$$$$ on investigating the horrible murders of the two teenagers.

If they are illegal, contact ICE and get them deported after they have served out their sentences!

"In some cases, the searches were conducted by officers on horseback."-Wow, even law enforcement is effected by high gas prices.

I think a lot more crime will get solved now that we have the DNA database (CODIS?). Cold cases 20 years old and more all over the place are getting solved with this stuff. Someone gets arrested for a DUI, is put in jail for 48 hours or whatever, they get a DNA sample, put it in the computer, and Shazam!--this guy raped and murdered a woman back in 1986! Now is that just great or what?

I can't remember the exact basis for mandatory collecting DNA here in California, but it is great--as long as they have DNA from a previous crime to compare it to. It's the new fingerprint, just a lot better. Also, they just used a new "touch DNA" in the Jon Benet Ramsey case from Boulder, CO, where they can get a DNA sample just from somebody having touched somthing (her long underwear) even if it was 13 years ago. Amazing and great. Criminals everywhere--beware--you can't hide, you cowards!

If DNA can nail any of these guys for anything, wouldn't that be great?

Good Job !!! This is one of the few things we hear about where our tax $$$ are spent on something that did the taxpayers some good. Do it again in other areas. Maybe we can get rid of some more dirt bags.

Nice work VPD and others...keep up the good work and enforcement of our laws.
How many were illegals? I bet a high percentage, if not all of them.

I dont understand? what about all the gang members in Cabrillo village aka "The Camp"? Im sure law Enforcement realize the Connection between the Gang and the murders in Saticoy? I havent even heard of them so much as conducting a probation sweep in that place? VPD needs to grow some and step up and put some pressure on that Gang because we (the community) all know whats going on in that village.. we hear the gun shots every weekend and continue to read about all the violence that this gang continues to be the root of.

star7 has it right? A waste of taxpayers $$ to arrest that many idiots? That is no waste at all!

There are many nests of the intelligence-intolerant spawn of welfare that need to be raided as time permits. If the law enforcement community did nothing but these types of raids, other issues would go by the wayside. But, whenever possible, go to the shallow end of the gene pool, and fish mightily! Catch the crotchfruit of the lowest among us, and send them away!

I love these types of stories, Star7...how many of your family were arrested?

Posted by Star7 on July 20, 2008 at 9:22 p.m. (Suggest removal)

None of my family members were arrested bbofvta OR involved. As I heard most of the 33 arrest have been RELEASED! OUR TAX$$$$$$$$$$

I agree with you BIGMAN! Very well said. Let's hope it doesn't fall on DEAF EARS.

Good job!

yes!
They did this huge gang sweep back in Tulare County where I grew up, but they actually listed their names and age and what they were specifically arrested for. Too bad the STAR didn't do the same.

Posted by Star7 on July 21, 2008 at 8:33 a.m. (Suggest removal)

The STAR not that stupid, they don't want to be sued. Some arrests & home searches may have been done by mistake.

Posted by mal1910 on July 21, 2008 at 9:04 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Wow, Star7 sounds like you didn't like this gang sweep at all. I hope they keep coming!

People complain if they police do something, then complain if they don't.

Posted by Star7 on July 21, 2008 at 9:32 a.m. (Suggest removal)

If it were only gangs. A person is brown and lives in a unincorporated area, they are considered gang members and illegals.

Posted by live_for_purpose on July 24, 2008 at 6:16 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Star7 Where I grew up if you got arrested, your name and age appeared in the local daily paper along with your city and state of residence. What is wrong with that? It is public record. They could print that innocence is presumed until conviction. They may have even printed their street address--but I'm not sure about that part.

mmshoot--what made you think a DNA database is for me to use? It is a law enforcement tool that is solving cold cases all over--like the 20 year old case from my hometown county. In 150 years they only had 2 unsolved murders, and now they only have one left to clear. The case is from 1981, so maybe CODIS will clear that one too. Criminals beware!!!
