Local Sports Briefs: july 19

BASEBALL

Conejo Oaks to play Cal Lutheran

The Conejo Oaks return home today to face Cal Lutheran at 1 p.m. Cal Lutheran will be the home team today and Sunday. The California Collegiate League Oaks play on the Cal Lutheran field, but this weekend's games are non-league.

Justin Shutt took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before giving up a double, the Monterey Bay Sox's only hit in Thursday's 6-0 road victory for the Oaks. Parker Riley and Alex Casillas each pitched a perfect inning in relief. The Oaks improved to 16-13-1 overall and 11-10 in league.

David Iden had three hits and two RBIs to lead the way.

The Bay Sox earned a 1-0 win over the Oaks on Tuesday. Scott Bachman held the Oaks to one hit in seven innings.

VOLLEYBALL

Channel Coast plans officials meeting

The Channel Coast Volleyball Officials' Association will have its first meeting for those wishing to officiate high school during the fall season. Games will start in early September.

The association referees games in Ventura County. New officials are welcome, including college students. The meeting will be held on Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. in the Ron Halt Community Room, Ventura Adult Education Facility, 5200 Valentine Road, Ventura. Those attending should park their vehicles in the rear of the complex. All training will be provided.

Ventura's Erickson tackles Supergirl

Ventura's Sage Erickson, a surfing standout, will compete against other surfers, skateboarders and snowboarders July 25-27 in the S3 Supergirl Jam, south of the Huntington Beach Pier.

More than 100 women will be competing for a share of the $60,000 prize purse.

The unique three-day event featuring surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding competitions will run in conjunction with Go211 Live featuring the U.S. Open of Surfing.

There will be free skateboarding clinics, autograph sessions, sponsor booths and live music by The Donnas and The Clique Girlz.

Emery leads junior league, VC camps

The National Junior Tennis League will be running for 10 weeks at Camino Real Park starting Monday. The camps will run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 2 p.m. for four weeks. Cost is $10.

Emery is the junior league director as well as the Ventura College state champions coach. The inaugural Ventura College camp will run Monday through Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the campus courts. Camps are open to boys and girls ages 8-17. All levels of instruction. Cost is $200 per camper. Family discounts are $175 each for two family members or $150 each for three or more family members.
