NEWBURY PARK

Family Day set at Home Depot July 26

The Home Depot will be hosting Thousand Oaks Family Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 26. There will be a kids workshop, giveaways and demonstrations. The police and fire departments will be on hand, as well as home improvement specialists.

The store is at 1745 Teller Road, Newbury Park.

Fruit bar celebrates grand opening

CRAVE Fruit Bar is having an opening celebration from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Paraíso town center in Newbury Park.

Festivities include a special appearance by RCA popular recording artists Test Your Reflex, face painting for kids; giveaways; fruit samples; discount coupons and a free raffle for a $200 gift certificate to a local sports shop.

The company is a unique eatery featuring dishes and smoothies made from fruit, vegetables and natural ingredients.

Lung cancer is topic of doctor's seminar

Martin Palmer will present "Frankly Speaking About Lung Cancer" from 6:30 to 8:30 Thursday at The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, 530 Hampshire Road. RSVP by calling 379-4777.

Facts and information about new treatments will be presented by Palmer, who is a medical oncologist with more than 25 years experience of in academic oncology clinical practice and clinical trials research.

He studied medicine in New Zealand, served on the faculty of the University of Alberta, Canada, and currently practices in Westlake Village. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

MOORPARK

12th annual charity golf event is slated

The Holy Cross Knights of Columbus Council 9969 will host their 12th annual charity golf tournament at Tierra Rejada Golf Club on Aug. 10.

Texas Scramble shotgun start is set for 12:30 p.m., with check-in at 11 a.m. After the tournament, there will be an auction, raffle and dinner.

Registration fee is $150 and includes lunch, dinner and prizes. The hole-in-one prize is a 2009 Cadillac CTS.
