Oxnard Seaside 12 & under All-Stars

Oxnard Seaside 12 & under All-Stars, Western C District Champions, traveled to Lancaster last weekend, finishing as finalist in a field of 18 teams and taking home the silver medal as the 12 & under American Softball Association (ASA) C State Runner-up, losing to San Marcos, 10-1 in the Championship.

The team finished with a 6-2 record, with wins over San Dieguito, 7-2, Clairemont, 6-2, Sylmar, 10-2, Lake elsinore, 19-2, Heartwell, 6-2 and Eastvale, 2-1 in the elimination game.

Seaside played five consecutive games on Sunday to advance to the championship. The last win clinched a spot in the championship game against San Marcos, which had defeated them earlier in the tournament, 3-0. The entire team fought hard through the fifth game, battling fatigue and injuries, they ended up losing to San Marcos, 10-1.

The team and families are very proud of what they accomplished: this was an entire team effort, but two players need to get recognition - Olivia "Smalls" Hernandez, pitched in all eight games (41 out of 45 innings). Olivia Hernandez struck out 25 batters with only 10 walks in her 41 innings pitched. Meagan Contreras was the only catcher used - catching ALL eight games.

The players are Alexi Arias, Alexus Waldron, Brianna Pena, Crystal Lopez, Isabel Gonzalez, Kiyanna Watley, Mary-Cruz Olquin, Meagan Contreras, Melissa Serrano, Meredith Hilgenberg, Olivia Hernandez and Sarah Carrillo.

The coaches are John Carrillo, Peter Hernandez and Sarah Hilgenberg.
