AGOURA HILLS

Rotary donates dictionaries to school

The Rotary Club of Agoura Hills/Oak Park presented 120 dictionaries to Sumac Elementary School in Agoura Hills on June 24. Carol Martino, principal of Sumac, accepted the dictionaries on behalf of the school. The dictionaries were presented by Doug Dickson, president of AHOP Rotary, and Rik Zelman. One of Rotary International's major goals is to support literacy. The dictionaries will go to the new third-grade class in September.

SIMI VALLEY

Scholarships given by Rotary to graduates

The Simi Sunrise Rotary Club awarded $14,000 in scholarships to Simi Valley graduating seniors. Candidates for the award must demonstrate a mix of academic achievement, financial need, community service and school service. The recipients were notified at their school's year-end awards ceremony and presented their checks at a Simi Sunrise breakfast meeting with their families in attendance.

The recipients were Sara Anderson, Santa Susana High; Bryan Bujanda, Apollo High; Katie Hamilton, Royal High; Cameron Kalajian, Simi Valley High; Mary Pero, Royal High; Diane Ponticelli, Santa Susana High; and Janet Tin Yun Li, Royal High.

VENTURA COUNTY

Teleflex awards grant to Turning Point

The Teleflex Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant to Turning Point Foundation to support Appleton House in Simi Valley.

Since 1988, Turning Point Foundation, a Ventura County nonprofit mental health agency, has provided shelter, housing, rehabilitation, recovery and support services to help mentally ill adults reach their highest potential as contributing members of the community. In 2005 Turning Point Foundation purchased the Simi Valley residence to provide supported housing for adults suffering from mental illness.

The Teleflex Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Teleflex Inc. The corporation provides engineered products in aerospace, medical and commercial areas, including the automotive, industrial and marine industries. Telair International Group, a division of Teleflex, is in Simi Valley.
