Santa Clarita's Clark Templeman III could not hold back his emotions Saturday night after winning the second leg of the All Coast Construction 3-2-1 Challenge at Ventura Raceway.

"It was just a matter of time," said Templeman, who hadn't won a Sprint Car race in the Ventura Racing Association since July 10 and 17, 2004.

"We're all friends and I try to race clean," said Templeman, all smiles after receiving $2,000 for the win and moving closer to the series points lead.

Richard McCormick took the lead on the second lap, but Templeman surged ahead of McCormick with 10 laps remaining. The 50-year-old McCormick holds his own against the young drivers.

McCormick finished second. Troy Rutherford fought hard for third. Steve Conrad was fourth and Bobby Michnowicz finished fifth.

Rutherford has 455 points to lead the All Coast Construction Challenge.

Templeman is second at 435. McCormick (410), Conrad (390) and Kevin Kierce (380) round out the top five. The deciding race will be Nov. 15, the season finale at the Ventura County Fairgrounds oval. Kierce won the March 29 opening All Coast Construction Challenge race, one of his four wins this season.

Kierce, a former track champion, has 3,055 points through 16 races. Kierce finished 18th in the 20-car field and completed only 26 of the 30 laps. It was his second straight race with bad luck. He had motor problems two weeks ago in the Bandit-VRA Grand Slam Series feature at Bakersfield Speedway.

There were 137 race cars spread over eight divisions and it was the largest crowd of the Sprint Car season. The July 30-31 Ventura County Fair races will be standing-room only to cap a July to Remember celebration for Ventura Raceway promoter Jim Naylor. This Saturday's Sprint Car show will be the last in Ventura until the Aug. 23 Bandit-VRA Grand Slam finale. The Bandit series will make a July 26 stop at Santa Maria Speedway while Ventura will be dark to get ready for the Ventura County Fair.

Tom Bellinger won the 12-lap Senior Dwarf Car feature. Bellinger started 10th in the 19-car race. Points leader Kevin Alverson was second. Ron Capodieci was third.

Brian Saxton, the Pro Dwarf Car points leader and former champion, earned the 12-lap win, holding off Angel Figueroa. Ray Estrada was third.

Saxton has 1,675 points. Brent Stevens is second with 1,345. It was Saxton's first win since May 3 and his fourth overall.

Tyler Edwards was victorious in the VRA Junior Focus Midgets feature.

Andrew Mulhearn placed second. David Perry Jr. was third. Charlie Butcher leads the series with 2,035 points after nine races. Edwards is second at 1,870.

Michnowicz won the 15-lap Ford Focus feature. Walt Johnson was second. Wally Pankratz finished third in the 17-car field.

Luke Boles was the VRA Junior Midgets winner. Cameron Dougan was second in the 15-lap race. Tyler Jerman was third. Boles is the points leader with 2,170 through 11 races. Brennan Rogers is second at 2,085.

Cody Major led all 12 laps in the Mini Dwarf Superchargers race. Jimmy McDonald was second and Devin McCree third. McCree has 2,230 points to lead the division through 10 races. Ricky Lewis is second at 2,230.

Cameron McCauley won the Mini Dwarfs Pistons feature. Joe Snyder was second.

McCauley is the points leader with 2,420. Cole Wakim is second at 2,185.
