Hoping to repeat the success of 2006's "The Evolution of Robin Thicke," the R&B singer-songwriter will release his third album, "Something Else," on Sept. 9. The album's first single, "Magic," has already hit No. 32 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

"Something Else" was produced by Thicke and longtime collaborator Pro-Jay. And, unlike "Evolution," it features no guest appearances. The album, as Thicke describes it, is "classic Philly, Motown and '70s black disco meets the creativity of The Beatles and Bob Dylan."

"I felt like a lot of stuff out there sounded the same. Plus, there are a lot of things going on in the world with the recession and the war. It made me feel like everybody really just needed something new, something else," Thicke said. "It's time for a change, and there is hope for everyone."

Aside from "Magic," which is appearing in a European TV commercial for Samsung mobile phones, other songs on the set include the step track "Side Step," and the hopeful "Dream World," where Thicke croons, "idealistic world where energy falls down from the sky/and you can drive any car and drink your wine/and I could walk down the streets with my wife/and no one will look at her twice."

In addition, Thicke has been busy with some movie scoring, writing a novel and screenplay, and is wrapping up his first poetry book. As far as when any of these projects will see the light of day, Thicke said, "they'll end up there. I have to enjoy and feel like I made something that deserves to be noticed. Otherwise, I don't rush my products for accolades."

"The Evolution of Robin Thicke" has sold 1.5 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
