Blocked line causes sewage overflow
A buildup of grease, sticks and paper caused a blockage in a sewer line, causing sewage to overflow Thursday from a manhole at Emeric and Acapulco avenues, city officials said.
Between 250 and 500 gallons of sewage discharged into the street, a storm drain and then into Arroyo Simi. The discharge occurred about 7:30 a.m. and lasted for about 15 minutes, officials said.
Accessible areas affected by the discharge were chlorinated, rinsed and vacuumed. Warning signs were posted along accessible areas of Arroyo Simi for about 1,000 feet downstream.
The county Environmental Health Division is advising the public to avoid contact with the affected area until 8 a.m. Sunday.
