Morning Report: Highway 101 southbound in Ventura closed briefly during pursuit

Police and Fire: Lanes of Highway 101 southbound in Ventura were briefly shut down Wednesday night as local police chased a man wanted by authorities in the Santa Barbara area, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

The car chase, which began in Santa Barbara, ended on Highway 101 near Victoria Avenue in Ventura about 8:20 p.m. after California Highway Patrol officers stopped the fleeing vehicle with a spike strip, said Capt. Chris Dunn of the Sheriff's Department.

The driver, who is in his mid 30s, was arrested after he allegedly struggled with officers and a K-9 from the Sheriff's Department, Dunn said.

He was taken to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of injuries including minor dog bites, Dunn said.

Highway 101 southbound at Victoria Avenue was briefly closed as a result of the pursuit.

----------

Traffic: At 6:46 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was reporting a non-injury traffic collision on Highway 33 at Villanova Road near Ojai.

----------

Weather: Partly cloudy conditions with high temperatures in the upper 60s at beaches and into the 90s in valleys are expected today, the National Weather Service reported.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. for local mountains, where temperatures are expected to reach 107.

There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in local mountains this afternoon.

Winds up to 25 miles per hour are expected in mountains.

Another high speed chase? What an idiot !!!

Star, A man in his 30's? Do we have a name? The other article regarding high speed chase that ended in Encino, in todays headlines stated a name. Just wondering. What was the guy wanted for? Not enough information in this article.

Maybe he was the REAL reason Krispy Kremes was shut down in Oxnard....so the cops beat the hell out of him.

I would think the first thing that he was wanted for was failure to Stop, next followed by reckless driving, speeding, failure to obey basic traffic laws and whatever else they could come up with. Whatever he was wanted for in Santa Barbara will fall in somewhere after that.

loquinus.......the first thing he was wanted for was not a failure to stop......obviously it was for something a little more serious than that......what he was wanted for in Santa Barbara was the reason for the pursuit not the traffic violations.

You are funny iluvSP...

No axel718, if he would have stop in Santa Barbara, the whole thing wouldn't have happened. So, again I say, the first thing he was wanted for was failure to Stop. After that, everything else becomes secondary. I know this first hand, as I had a family member involved in a very long pursuit years ago.

Oh no, my brother did it long before OJ. He did however make the front page of the Star Free Press, about half of the front page. That should tell you how long ago it was.

The Star Free Press was good, but the best local Oxnard news came from the Press Courier.

keepin_it_real,

As you may already know, the star is infamous for not giving us any good and complete descriptions. This is typical, unfortunately.

I hope the police K-9 is okay after biting this loser!

mamaof2,

Krispy Kreme ran into legal and regulatory problems because it tried to expand too fast.

Their stock price all but bottomed out, falling from a high of $105 to less than $5. As if this wasn't enough the company canned its veteran chief executive too.

Wholesaling was also a big issue and more difficult to handle than expected, I'm sure that also led to the CEO's removal.

KK closed stores nationwide like falling dominos.

According to KVTA, the driver "is accused of driving a stolen VW Jetta, driving under the influence, evading arrest, resisting arrest, assault on a police dog, and having an outstanding felony warrant."
