Rubicon International Theatre Festival

The festival's preview season will feature six productions and an opening ceremony at several Ventura venues (with one show in Calabasas) from Saturday through July 31, plus three free events. Here's the performance schedule:

"Tu Ternura Molotov" ("Your Molotov Kisses"), 8 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday, Bell Arts Factory, 432 N. Ventura Ave. $10.

Opening ceremony, 8 p.m. July 18, with a reception at 7 p.m., Majestic Ventura Theatre, 26 S. Ventura St. Call for reservations by Friday. $42-$250.

"Eye of the Cyclone," 7 p.m. Wednesday, 8 p.m. July 17, and 1 and 5 p.m. July 19, Rubicon Theatre, 1006 E. Main St. $42-$47.

"Conviction," 8 p.m. July 19, and 2 and 7 p.m. July 20 at Ventura College Theater, 4667 Telegraph Road; and 8 p.m. July 21 at Calabasas Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Way. $42-$47.

"First Love," 7 p.m. July 23, 6:30 p.m. July 24, 6 p.m. July 25, 3 p.m. July 26 and 4 p.m. July 27 at Ventura College. $42-$47.

"Imagine-toi," 8 p.m. July 24-26 and 2 p.m. July 26-27 at Ventura College. $42-$47.

"Cabaret," featuring singer Giselle Wolf, 9 p.m. July 25, Elks Lodge Theatre, 11 S. Ash St. $47.

The free events are a Kabuki demonstration and lecture by Lon Ordon, professor and artist-in-residence at Illinois State University, 4 p.m. July 25 at the Elks Lodge; "Rumi, Soaring to Ecstasy," a reading of poetry by the 13th-century Persian poet, 2 p.m. July 26 at the Ventura Book Fair, Crowne Plaza Hotel, 450 E. Harbor Blvd.; and an apprentice showcase, 7 p.m. July 27 at Ventura College.

Passports: A Festival Passport, which includes entrance to all shows and the opening ceremony, is $200. A Patron Passport, which offers premium seating at all events, is $315.

Mark next year's calendar: The inaugural 10-day Rubicon International Theatre Festival will take place from July 9-19, 2009, in Ventura, mainly at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, but also at the Rubicon Theatre, Majestic Ventura Theatre, Olivas Adobe and other venues. Along with performances and readings, activities will include a parade, workshops, concerts, speakers and panel discussions.
