Open House Set for July 31
OakView, the new health center of University Village Thousand Oaks, is now open to the public. The state-of-the-art health center, located just north of California Lutheran University at 3557 Campus Dr. in Thousand Oaks, offers assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing for University Village residents and members of the general public.
To celebrate its grand opening, OakView will hold an open house on Thursday, July 31, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tours of the health center will be held and refreshments will be served.
According to Sharon Friedman, director of marketing and admissions for OakView, residents have started moving into the assisted living center and "The Gardens," OakView's Memory Support program, and reservations are still being accepted. OakView Skilled Nursing is scheduled to open by early to mid-August.
The assisted living center at OakView offers 48 studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments. Each apartment includes a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave, large bathrooms with walk-in showers and pull-down seats, individual climate controls and an emergency call system on a pendant that residents can wear. The assisted living center provides 24-hour assistance for residents who need help with such daily tasks as bathing, dressing and medications. The Gardens features a safe, secure environment with private rooms and bathrooms, and an enclosed, outdoor courtyard.
An active schedule of weekly outings and activities has already begun at both OakView Assisted Living and The Gardens. Weekly outings run the gamut from museum, theater and casino excursions to picnics and trips to the Reagan Library. The center has also started daily exercise classes, as well as pet therapy and music therapy programs, professional entertainment by outside performers, dances, garden clubs and game nights.
"We are committed to providing an exciting program of activities for the residents to keep them healthy and active," Friedman said. "We are also working with adult education programs in the area to offer classes this fall, as well as a pool therapy and exercise program at the Thousand Oaks YMCA facility. Our goal is to constantly offer variety and new experiences for the residents so they are happy and motivated to stay mentally and physically fit."
In addition to a full activities schedule, OakView offers private dining rooms for special celebrations with family and friends, and scheduled transportation to medical appointments and shopping.
OakView Skilled Nursing, with 48 beds and a 24-hour professional staff, will have private and semi-private rooms. The new facility will feature specialized nursing, IV therapy, wound care, pain management and rehabilitative services.
"We look forward to opening our doors and offering visitors the opportunity to see what tremendous advances have been made in recent years with regard to assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing," Friedman said. "We are proud to offer the latest in professional health services for seniors and others needing various levels of care, and look forward to sharing our story with the community on July 31."
OakView is located adjacent to the new University Village Thousand Oaks continuing care retirement community near California Lutheran University. Parking for OakView is located immediately outside the health center's main entrance.
