Ojai man injured in possible gang fight

An Ojai man was airlifted to a local hospital from Meiner's Oaks on Monday after being hit by a car in what authorities are calling a possible gang fight.
Mario Oseguera, 20, suffered substantial injuries in the collision, which occurred at 4 p.m. in the 1100 block of Fierro Drive during a confrontation between two rival groups, Ventura County Sheriff's Department officials said in a prepared statement.
Authorities on Tuesday evening were looking for Matthew De La Cruz, 18, of Oak View, who reportedly drove his car into Oseguera, officials said.
Oseguera was with a group of men who threw rocks at a residence and vandalized a car parked in the driveway, authorities said.
While Oseguera was attempting to get into an SUV, De La Cruz struck him with a car and drove off, sheriff's officials said.
Fire and ambulance personnel treated Oseguera, who was later airlifted to Ventura County Medical Center in stable condition.
When sheriff's deputies arrived, Daniel Rockett, 19, a Fierro Drive resident, became uncooperative, was restrained and ultimately arrested on suspicion of interfering with an investigation, authorities said.
He had been released by Tuesday.
The incident is under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's major crimes bureau at 477-7000.

I like Ojai a lot, but a couple people I know who live there tell me that it does have an increasing gang and various other low-life problems, so now I'm kinda changing my mind about moving there. They were telling me gang incidences occur often, but rarely make local news. I need to win the lottery so I can build my log cabin in the woods and become a hermit...anyone have the numbers?

as for this happening in ojai, it really doesnt suprise me, ojai/oak view is where ive known familys that come from the avenue move to get away from the gangs there and try and keep there kids out of trouble, although it doesnt always work out that way. sometimes these kids end up making trouble wherever they go. we are in 2008 people, things will get worse everywhere!
i watched a thing on tv last night about MS 13 (a salvadoreno gang) im just thanking God they havent corrupted ventura county. the are all loco in the cabesa and far worse then the gangs we already have here.

Oh well if the kid was hit in Oxnard it would have been a TOTALLY different discussion! I am sure!!!! I am just glad none of the typical racial crap has been muddled into the middle of the match making between Jr and Relv. that would have taken all of the fun out of this story!!!!!

OK guys. I'm glad you're all getting along nicely. Really, I am. This is better than everyone cutting each other down and blasting profanity in all caps. But we have gotten slightly off topic, haven't we? I wouldn't make a big deal about it usually, but this is happening more and more often. And the threads of friendly banter are getting longer and longer. So, time to nip it. My apologies. I hope you all got each others email and myspace addresses before I dragged them off. they are already here. the murder in the T.O. apt complex last year was MS-13 related.

I've lived in Ojai for over 20 years. There is a fledgling gang problem there. I still think it is a great place to raise a family, but frankly I think the gang problem is nothing compared to the under age drinking that goes on there. Nordhoff is a quagmire of boozed out kids.

Fedup: I did not know that... but that is only one murder so far, i have not seen any tagging of there gang or heard anything else of them, so really they havent corrupted this county.

one that we are aware of. who knows how many unsolved murders in our area are because of them.

Instead of having a realtime forum or board you need to change the setup. Submit a post and it gets sent to a Mod via a notification for pre-approval and then posted (if approved). Too many racist and ignorant folks on this site and it's getting worse, really low class. My 2 cents..

yes, ms 13 is in 33 states here in the usa but when i say "corupted" im talking about them being known very well around here. kinda like oxnards biggest gang CO. Every one knows they are a problem here and i am pretty sure some people here in ventura county never even heard of ms.

well all the people posting blogs on this site is better then ojai's i cant believe this little town and all the people who hate on only two people i know rocket and de la cruz and there very nice boys de la cruz never ment to hit the guy he sewerved because he almost hit the doors in the suv and the guy was running back to the car after breaking out there windows of the house and both news papers need to get all the information because it isnt always right and this ojai gang wouldnt last two seconds in oxnard they hit women i should know my case is still under investigation also one of my girl friends and yes the police are trying to get ahold of these gang members but then never can get a hold of them they run so i really dont understand how any of these gang issues are going to get resolved in oxnard its to hard to get a hold of there gang problem because theres more gang members then police and there over powering i just think its stupid that the ojai community isnt looking at the big picture we dont need gang problems in ojai we got other problems to deal with and if you do go on the OJAIVALLEYNEWS.COM read some of the comments people are getting out of hand with this subject

I would like to know why this person was released from jail. Sounds like they both should be charged with attempted murder.
