Memorial service scheduled for former public health officer
A memorial service will be held on Saturday in Ventura for Lawrence "Larry" E. Dodds, a former Ventura County public health officer and a flight surgeon on President Lyndon Johnson's helicopter crew.
Dodds died June 9 in Pennsylvania at the age of 71. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at Bible Fellowship Church, 6950 Ralston St.
The Ventura High School graduate was chief resident at Ventura County Medical Center from 1967 to 1969, its first full-time emergency room doctor from 1970 to 1971, and a county public health officer from 1983 to 1993, family members said.
Dodds served on Johnson's flight crew, was a charter member of Bible Fellowship Church, and with wife Lois founded Heartstream Resources Inc. to provide medical, counseling and other services to missionaries and international aid workers.
Memorial contributions can be made to the ALS Association, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002; or to Heartstream Resources Inc., 101 Herman Lee Circle, Liverpool, PA 17045.
