Police and Fire: Six men were arrested this morning on suspicion of beating another man with bats and other weapons during an attempted robbery at a Thousand Oaks apartment complex, authorities said.
Angel Chan, 22, was preparing to ride his bike to work from the Warwick Apartments in the 800 block of Warwick Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. today when six men allegedly attacked him, said Det. Eric Buschow of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
The men allegedly tried to take money from Chan’s wallet during the assault, Buschow said.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and arrested all six men on suspicion of assault and attempted robbery.
Chan suffered injuries including bruises and contusions, Buschow said. He was transported to Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks for treatment.
All six suspects were being held in Ventura County Jail this morning on suspicion of assault and attempted robbery.
Augustin Pacheco, 24, Luis Contreras-Matus, 19, Geisler Navarette, 22, Irwing Farfan, 18 and Josue Yama, 25, were being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Ricardo Ordonez, 21, was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Farfan is a Newbury Park resident. All the other suspects live in the Warwick Apartments.
----------
Traffic: At 7:05 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was not reporting any traffic accidents or hazards on county roadways.
----------
Weather: Mostly sunny and warm conditions are expected today after morning low clouds and fog, the National Weather Service reported.
High temperatures in the 60s at beaches and into the 90s in valleys are predicted. Temperatures in local mountains could reach 104.
An excessive heat watch for local mountains is scheduled to begin tomorrow morning and last through Thursday evening.
The combination of high heat and fairly high humidities could lead to heat related illnesses. The weather service cautions people in local mountains to stay out of the sun and drink plenty of fluids.
Temperatures above 100 degrees are also possible in local valleys Tuesday through Thursday, according to weather service forecasts.

How come the one guy's bail is less?

Probably the lesser bail guy was considered an accessory after the fact...was there, maybe didn't participate in the beating.

i cant understand how one human being can take a bat to another. unless someone is trying to harm someone i love i couldnt imagine being cruel enough to hit somebody on the head like that. ive seen something similar to this, it was 5 guys to one and all of them had bats, it was one of the most disturbing things i have ever watched. i just wonder what goes through there heads when they are doing this. i hope they dont just get let out with probation, to bad we couldnt be like other countries and give them 50 lashes with a wooden wip on there bare behinds.

I agree with West_to_East; sorry to say but they each should be handled with 10 of the other prisoner's bats, that should teach them!

5 of the suspects live in the same apartment complex as the victim. Must be a nice place to live.

The guys are morons!!! I hate to say it but these scumbags will probably not get enough time in jail. It seems that others get more time for doing less than guys like this end up getting.
Mr. Chan, have a quick recovery. I hope these jerks get what they deserve.

Why is it all too often the Spanish surnames that find themselves in trouble with the law? Check their immigration and if they are illegal, deport after they do their time for assault with a deadly weapon or attempted murder, attempted robbery, and general thuggishness. Idiots and cowards. 6 wimps attack one innocent victim with baseball bats and all get arrested. Hopefully all end up with long jail sentences.

Oh great, here we go again with the immigration fear mongers. Just yesterday a non-Hispanic dude stabbed his brother and sister in-law in Ventura, Charles Ross is the name. Are you going to deport him? Guess what, humans will always do bad things and its not race specific, so enough already. How many times does this have to be explained to the VCstar commentators?

gman--If someone is a citizen and they are trash unfortunately we are stuck with them--unless we can encourage them to illegally go to Mexico!
If someone is not a citizen, then we have a choice to not be stuck with them. And criminal illegal aliens should be deported after serving out a long sentence. Other illegal aliens should also be deported. Let them immigrate to this country LEGALLY. That's the way we do things here in this country--law and order. Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?

mama--You're right. Many people are racist. It is very racist to think that just because someone is a certain color or ethnicity or came from a certain country that they are the only ones who are allowed to break laws--including immigration laws--and get away with it. You're right--our country should not let only these people illegally invade us and not anyone else. We should not let anyone illegally come here. Thank you for pointing that out, mama.
