Professor will speak on women in Iran
Nayereh Tohidi, chairwoman of the Gender and Women's Studies Department at CSU Northridge, will give a free lecture on Iran at the Thousand Oaks Library on July 30.
The lecture, titled "The Women's Movement, Islam and Democracy in Iran," will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the library, 1401 E. Janss Road.
The event is sponsored by Global Exchange Ventura County Supporters.
Tohidi, an author, is a research associate for Near Eastern studies at UCLA and a consultant to the United Nations and the media on women, gender and human rights in Islamic societies.
This program is the second in a series on Afghanistan, Iran and Kurdistan.
In August, Afghan filmmaker Meena Nanji will show and discuss her documentary about women in Afghanistan, "View from a Grain of Sand."
