SIMI VALLEY

Property tax, rental information available

AARP volunteer counselors will be available at the Simi Valley Senior Center to help eligible seniors complete Homeowner and Renter Assistance applications.

Homeowners may qualify for a partial refund of the property taxes paid on their homes.

For renters, this is a yearly reimbursement based on the property taxes paid as part of their rent payments.

Qualifications include:

- Minimum age of 62 years, blind or disabled as of Dec. 31, 2007.

- Have a one-person household total income of $44,096 or less for 2007.

- Lived in own home on Dec. 31, 2007, or lived in a rented residence all or part of 2007 and paid $50 or more per month in rent.

- Be a U.S. citizen or qualified alien.

Counselors are available each Thursday through Aug. 28.

VENTURA COUNTY

Laughlin casino trip set for Sept. 16-18

Jo's Getaways is planning a trip to the Avi Resort and Casino in Laughlin on Sept. 16-18.

Cost is $130 per person double occupancy, and $155 single occupancy. Bus pickups will be in Oxnard, Santa Paula and Ventura.

All reservations must be made and paid for no later than Aug. 10.

Jo's Getaways is a private, nonprofit party.

Warm-water pool open for therapy

The Easter Seals warm-water pool in Ventura offers year-round swim lessons for children and adults with special needs.

With a grant, Easter Seals offers financial assistance to families of children with disabilities.

This grant is designed for private lessons for children with autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delay and moderate to severe physical limitations.

Semi-private personal training is available. The program offers a variety of fitness classes for those who have arthritis, low back pain and the after-effects of strokes.

The pool is indoors, open Monday through Saturday, and kept at 94 degrees.
