Report: Dodgers inquire about Wilson
Could the Dodgers fill their need at shortstop with Thousand Oaks High graduate Jack Wilson?
According to a story by Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers have contacted the Pittsburgh Pirates about the availability of Wilson.
But nobody has contacted Wilson or his Camarillo-based agent Page Odle, according to Odle.
"Not at this point," said Odle of PSI Sports Management. "But we expect a lot more rumors over the next couple of weeks. Jack is on the tail end of his contract and there is always a chance. But he is not outwardly looking for it. He is enjoying himself in Pittsburgh and really loves the fans there."
With Rafael Furcal sidelined for at least eight weeks after back surgery, the Dodgers are said to be in the market for another shortstop.
Wilson, 30, is under contract for $6.5 million this season and $7.25 million next season and the contract also includes an $8.4 million club option for 2010, according to Rosenthal's story.
A strong defensive presence, Wilson missed most of the first two months of the season with a strained left calf. The Oxnard College product is batting .312.
