Las Vegas 'Star Trek: The Experience' heads for oblivion
After an 11-year run, it's warp speed to closure for "Star Trek: The Experience" at the Las Vegas Hilton.
Hilton spokesman Ira Sternberg said the attraction aimed at helping fans boldly feed their Star Trek fantasies will shut its doors Sept. 1, after the attraction owner opted not to renew its lease at the end of the year.
However, Sternberg said Wednesday, the decision by leaseholder Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. might mean one final surge of Star Trek pilgrims during the Official Star Trek Convention Aug. 6-10 at the Hilton. The attraction features interactive 24th-century rides, film clips, sound and models, plus a Star Trek Museum billed as the largest collection of Star Trek props and costumes anywhere in, well, Starfleet Command. Visitors also beam down to Quark's Bar and Grill, right, which features such explosive drinks as the Warp Core Breach and wandering Klingons, Borg and Ferengi.
