Dream, after 17 tries, gets its first victory of season

Ivory Latta scored 16 of her 18 points in the second half to help the Atlanta Dream end the longest losing skid to start a season in league history with a 91-84 win over the visiting Chicago Sky on Saturday night.

Kristin Haynie had 11 points and 11 assists and Jennifer Lacy added 18 points for Atlanta (1-17), which became the first team without a win by the midpoint of the season when it lost to Connecticut on June 27 to fall to 0-14.

Jia Perkins led Chicago with 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Candice Dupree added 19 points.

Comets 73, Monarchs 65: Tina Thompson scored 19 points in her first game since missing four games because of a broken finger, as host Houston defeated Sacramento.

Thompson helped the Comets (9-9) reach .500 for the first time this season after they started the year 0-5. The Comets have won eight of their last 12.

Fever 81, Sun 74: Tammy Sutton-Brown and Katie Douglas each scored 18 points to lead Indianapolis over visiting Connecticut.

Tully Bevilaqua had 17 points as Indiana won its second straight game over the Sun this season and ended the visitors' five-game win streak at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Asjha Jones scored 20 points, and Lindsay Whalen and Tamika Whitmore each had 15 points for Connecticut. Tamika Catchings and Ebony Hoffman each scored 11 for the Fever.

Liberty 93, Mercury 83: Shameka Christon scored 18 of her 25 points in the first half and visiting New York snapped Phoenix's four-game winning streak.

Diana Taurasi led the Mercury (8-8) with 25 points, despite missing 12 of 19 shots from the field.

Janel McCarville had 21 points and six assists for the Liberty, which improved to 2-2 on its five-game road trip. New York (9-8) finishes its stretch at San Antonio on Tuesday.

Storm 96, Lynx 71: Lauren Jackson scored 16 of her season-high 34 points in the first quarter, and host Seattle rallied from an early deficit to rout Minnesota.

Jackson was 15 of 22 from the floor, including 7 of 11 during the first quarter.
