Murphy earns Bakersfield win
Peter Murphy captured the Bandit-Ventura Racing Association Grand Slam Series race on Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway.
Murphy won the 30-lap feature by finishing in front of Danny Faria Jr. and Davey Pombo. Ojai's Troy Rutherford was fourth and defending champion Greg Taylor was fifth.
Murphy has two wins in the series and leads the points race with 236. Taylor is second at 220 and Johnathon Henry is third at 212.
The next Bandit race will be July 26 at Santa Maria Speedway. The deciding Bandit-VRA Grand Slam Series race will be Aug. 30 at Ventura Raceway.
There will be no racing at Ventura Raceway on Saturday. It returns July 12 with the All Coast Construction Challenge.

There will be plenty of fireworks and racing tonight as Perris Auto Speedway presents a USAC/CRA Sprint Car race featuring former champion Cory Kruseman of Ventura.

Toyota Speedway: More fireworks and racing will be on the menu at Irwindale's Toyota Speedway. The California Highway Patrol 200 in the NASCAR Camping World West Series and the Auto Club Late Models 100-lap feature will highlight the night.
There was plenty of excitement last Saturday as 12-year-old Aaron Anderson of Lancaster won the Bandoleros 20-lap feature. It was Anderson's third straight win. Misty Balser of Acton was second and Andrew Porter of La Verne was third.
Conner Cantrell, 17, of Valencia won the King Taco Super Truck 40-lap feature. Cantrell won on the last lap for his fourth victory. Points leader Pat Mintey Jr. of Quartz Hill was second. Poway's Joe Herold was third.
Riverside's Jacob Rogers won the Justice Brothers Mini Stock 35-lap feature. Points leader Rich Garver of Torrance was second. Dennis Croasman of Alta Loma was third.
Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills won his seventh AC Delco Super Late Models feature. Travis Thirkettle of Newhall was second. Jason Patison of Corona was third.
Signal Hill's Dan Pachella won the Demolition Derby. James Altman of Wildomar was second and Jack Steiner of Riverside finished third.

Pacific Coast Motorsports: Carl Skerlong finished third in the Champ Car Atlantic Series race at St. Jovite, Quebec.
"The race today was great," said Skerlong. "I was able to make a pass for third on the first lap and after that we ran a clean and consistent race.
Skerlong races for Oxnard's Pacific Coast Motorsports.
Junior Strous won the 40-lap race. Strous is the points leader with 74, Skerlong is fifth with 53 points.
Skerlong's teammate, Frankie Muniz, finished 11th after starting 15th.
Muniz said he's excited about the July 25-26 races in the Grand Prix of Edmonton.
Muniz was 15th at Long Beach and 13th at Laguna Seca.
"I am very happy with the way this weekend turned out," said Muniz. "We struggled initially in testing on Friday, and we didn't get very much time to run on a dry track in qualifying on Saturday, but all our struggles paid off in the race today."
