City OKs lease of land for new main post office
The Moorpark City Council unanimously voted Wednesday night to lease land to the U.S. Postal Service for $1 a year, for what will be the city's main post office at the west end of High Street.
The City Council approved conceptual plans recently for a 5,000-square-foot building with two full-service windows with retail services. It will be set back from Moorpark Avenue, facing High Street.
The project is on a "fast-track" to construction, with groundbreaking expected by the end of this year, city officials said.
While there are some design details to work out, like possible drive-up services, the building would sit west of Caesar's Carpets on one acre. At least 20 public parking spaces will abut Moorpark Avenue.
While a satellite post office near Casino Storage will remain, the new post office will replace the one at 215 W. Los Angeles Ave.
