Access to beach area to be restricted today
Oxnard police will close Arnold Road after 4 p.m. today to restrict access to a small section of the Ormond Beach area as part of the citys efforts to suppress fireworks and protect the wetlands.
The road will reopen at 2 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Also, police are asking residents to report in-progress fireworks disturbances by calling the departments nonemergency line at 385-7740.
To report past illegal fireworks activity, they can call a fireworks hotline at 982-7086. Police will contact residents at those locations to curtail future disturbances, officials said.
Callers may remain anonymous.
Anyone possessing, storing, selling, using or handling any type of fireworks device is subject to arrest or a civil citation with a fine of up to $1,000, police said.
