Southern California Edison Supports Local Literacy Program
Many Mansions is pleased to receive a grant in the amount of $5,000 from Southern California Edison, to support Many Mansions' after-school Homework & Literacy Program for resident children.
Recognizing the crucial role education plays in breaking the cycle of poverty, Many Mansions created the Homework & Literacy Program to provide educational support for students in grades K-12. The specific objective of the program is to provide resident children with an enriched learning environment that will enable them to complete their school assignments, improve their literacy skills and increase their academic achievement. Trained staff and volunteers work with the children on an individual and group basis, assisting them with their homework and reading with them. Additionally, program staff recently collaborated with the local school district to implement SuccessMaker®, a computer-based educational curriculum, at three program sites, enabling the children to continue their classroom instruction and focus on problem areas with tutors.
The generosity and involvement of Southern California Edison over the years has greatly assisted Many Mansions' mission of providing affordable housing with on-site, life-enriching services to low- and very low-income residents of Ventura County.
