Santa Paula's Carragen catches 44-pound white seabass
SALTWATER REPORT
Santa Paula's Eddie Carragen caught a 44-pound white seabass off the Aloha Spirit on Sunday at Santa Cruz Island on a Capt. Hook's Sportfishing trip.
Oxnard's Ashley Porter caught a 27.2-pound white seabass at Santa Cruz Island on the Aloha Spirit.
Ventura's Vin Ridgeway caught an 18-pound halibut at Anacapa Island on the Island Spirit.
The fishing has been very good.
"We're getting good looks at calico bass and white seabass," said Chuck Brown of Capt. Hook's. "We're catching a little bit of everything."
Ventura's John Pagent caught a 7-pound barracuda on the Channel Islands Sportfishing's Gentleman on Friday at Anacapa Island.
Kwan Kim of Ojai caught a 24-pound halibut on the Pacific Islander.
Pagent also caught a 27.8-pound Yellowtail off the Island Tak.
The Cobra, a full-day boat, leaves at 4 a.m. daily. The Gentleman, a three-quarter-day boat, leaves at 6 a.m. and the Pacific Islander leaves at 9 a.m. for half-day trips.
Beginning Monday, the Pacific Islander will leave at 8 a.m. and return by 4 p.m.
Danny McFarlane of Channel Islands Sportfishing said the white seabass and calico bass fishing have been good.
The Corral Sea is the overnight boat and two-day trips are scheduled through October. Call the landing for more information at 382-6233.
Port Hueneme Sportfishing reports white seabass, calico bass and barracuda are among the variety being caught.
Alan Wilson of Chatsworth caught a 38-pound halibut at Channel Islands on Sunday.
Kenny Moore of Simi Valley caught a 40-pound white seabass at Channel Islands on the Pacific Eagle on an overnight boat.
Oxnard's Carlos Thompson caught an 18-pound white seabass with a sardine at Channel Islands.

Boats are leaving on a daily basis.
Ventura Sportfishing is catching plenty of rockfish. A variety of fish are being caught, including red snapper, whitefish, calico bass, sheephead, lingcod, barracuda and sculpin.
FRESHWATER REPORT
Lake Casitas: Acton's Ron Thompson caught a 9-pound bass on swim bait on Sunday. Thompson's son, Kevin, caught a 7-pound bass on swim bait.
Oxnard's Eric Johnson caught a 7-pound bass on a top water lure on Sunday.
Steve Zubaga of Santa Clarita caught a 6-pound bass last Wednesday using a top-water lure.
Tiffany Ginn caught a 4.6-pound largemouth bass.
Alex Cortez caught a 5-pound catfish on mackerel on June 24.
Trout are being caught by trolling near the dam with lead-core line at seven colors using needlefish lures.
Trout are being caught in the 2-to 2-pound range.
Oxnard's Chuck Montag caught three trout averaging 2 pounds on needlefish.
Lake hours: 6:30 a.m.-7 p.m.
Castaic Lake: Lancaster's Chuck Crosby reeled in a 10.7-pound catfish. Crosby used a nightcrawler bait and was fishing in the government cove last Wednesday.
Steven Hage of Valencia caught a 10-pound striper in the ski arm. Hage used an umbrella rig and was trolling at 35 feet on June 24.
Lake hours: 7 a.m.-5:15 p.m.
Cachuma Lake: Trout fishing is good in the morning. In the afternoon, trout are being caught at the 60-foot level. Needlefish work well in catching trout. Power worms are doing the trick.
A few crappie have been spotted. Bass are picking up and nightcrawlers is the best bait. Catfish can be caught on mackerel. Blue Gill are being caught in the coves and at the island.
Lake hours: 7 a.m.-6 p.m.
Lake Piru: Bass and trout fishing continue to be productive. Bass are being caught on nightcrawlers and plastic worms.
Red needlefish work well in catching trout.
The catfish and crappie have been more elusive for anglers.
Lake hours: 6 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
