See what happens when you get the hands-free law into effect. Now you can hold two beers, talk on the phone, and drive at the same time.

Drunk Drivers - If you don't care about injuring or killing yourself --- at least realize that you can injure or kill innocent people. I'm sure the next time, you party-on ----- you won't remember this.

oxnard40...hehehe that was a good one! Anyways...im sure everyOne has taken alil sip or two & drove home thinking it's only so far... but the truth of the matter is, if you slammerd please dont drive... call a cab, a friend...someone be smart. This is a perfect example of how things can happen when your drunk! yes that could of been a innocent family in a car... someone walking down the sidewalk! good he didnt kill himself or anyone else! SU*ks now this dudes gonna be stuck with a DUI... I know how much that su*ks!!

Whoa, excuse me...I am 34 and have never taken a sip or two and driven. I am completely 100% against drinking & driving. Even one drink will impair your judgement and delay your stopping time. It's not worth it to me...so to assume that everyone has had a drink and driven is a very hasty genralization and very irresponsible!

I have read and seen many news accounts of the problems the Hispanic's have with alcohol in their culture and trying to convince them to not drink and drive. So until you get a handle on the cultural aspect of it they will continue to do so and put others in jeopardy. Yes every color of people drink and drive but it is especially bad with the Hispanic culture. I don't care who you are, if you drink and drive, you get what you deserve.

whatever, it amasses me how you can incorporate race to this. I guess you havent seen NASCAR. heard Bill Engval. And Im not saying only whites. but come on bud. I know a lot of hispanics that dont drink.

whatever. That is racist and ignorant. DUI offenders are color blind. You see so many accounts in the news because we live in a highly populated Hispanic community.

Good lesson for this holiday weekend coming up - don't drink and drive! Hop in a cab, drink at your house, take the keys away from friends.

You can bet that the DUI checkpoints will be out in full force throughout the county...as they should be.

Thank goodness no one else was involved in the accident.

Why is it that everytime there is a hispanic name on the paper people like **WHATEVER** ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY???
Stick to the topic and pull your head out of your *ss.

whatever: I see now why you have your name, people must always tell you "whatever". i am so annoyed by people like you who always have to bring race into it.

"I have read and seen many news accounts of the problems the Hispanic's have with alcohol in their culture"

That doesn't seem racist to me. It's a known fact that alcoholism is a problem in Native American communities (reservations). Is it racist that I say that?

Is there truth to whatever's statement? I don't know; I haven't done reading on the subject. But I do know that the family of the long-term Hispanic boyfriend that I had included copious amounts of alcohol in every family celebration. And I'm not just talking their immediate family, this includes extended family, friends, etc.

Obviously my experience with one family doesn't provide any statistics.

But I think that before everyone jumps on 'whatever' for being racist perhaps a bit of research should be done to see if there is validity to the statement.

And if not, well then you can jump all over the comments! :~)

BeaHappi I totally agree with you, but before she says those comments she should do some research before stating the comments. Her comments were just out of context.

missing805...I get it; that does happen a lot on here. And the reality is that our county has a large population of Hispanics and so many of the "newsworthy" stories will likely be about a Hispanic person.

I'd like to add that the Hispanic parties that I attended were some of the most fun I EVER attended!

missing805 To you and the others that love to LABEL everyone a racist these days (which is also getting very old) I did my research and it was on the main stream media, you know the ones you all watch that is all liberal. They had on a Hispanic man from Mexico revealing that it is indeed a severe problem with Hispanics and exactly what BeHappi said. Their culture is to have booze at every single get together and you know their are numerous ones that they celebrate. He is trying to get the word out to stop and have a designated driver and the rules of our land for those who don't know it. It is a very big problem and the sooner you try to help them learn that we don't drink and drive, you will be a better person for doing something instead of labeling every single person a racist. As we celebrate AMERICA'S 4th of July and our freedom's, remember that it is our freedom of speech that we have to voice our thoughts. Constantly crying racist every time is not helping you in any way. It is hurting you, not me.

whatever...thanks for the additional information. If my experiences were any indication of the culture as a whole, I'd say the man in the program was spot on with his comments.

I mean this in the nicest, non-racial way ever...but when I think of Hispanic party I think Mariachi music (love it!), great food, and lots of alcohol. Tons of fun...and many, many inebriated people.

Well, I do find it interesting that the first few comments noted under this article had to do with what people saw as they drove by, or that it's too bad he got hurt or how glad they were no one else got injured or killed...then someone had to throw in the fact that the guy was Latino. Racial or not, that was immaterial. Yes, the facts were that this guy is Latino...yes, the facts were that he had been drinking. But why bring it up? The truth of the matter is, is one human consumed too much alcohol and nearly killed himself. Such a shame, no matter he was White, African American or purple. Bringing race into it was pointless.

I'm not saying the person who brought it up is racist at all. I just don't think it was wise that they brought it up, on account of the furor that followed.

This man is a complete idiot for driving drunk and now he will be limping around and telling a story of stupidity and ignorance. Next time dude call a a cab...there are 5 cab companies in Oxnard and they take ATM.All races have issues with alcohol and booze. When I am in Rite Aid I see blacks, hispanics, and whites buying beer. Were all guilty of making Budweiser and Heinekine millions of dollars.

Sounds like this accident was a good situation considering that the driver was DUI. Think about it, he made a bad choice, he crashed, only he got hurt and now he will get a DUI and have the chance to learn from it and to teach others to learn from HIS mistake. I'm so glad that it happened the way it did instead of him hurting someone else or damaging someone's home with his inebriated driving! This is a GREAT story that has a perfect natural consequence! Obviously I do not feel sad for him for getting hurt, he deserved it!
