Promoted to captain
Air Force pilot Samuel P. Robino was promoted to captain June 20. He is based out of Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, Japan, and is attached to the 17th Special Operations Squadron.
Several months ago during the Myanmar cyclone disaster, Robino and the 17th squadron were on standby to deliver medicine and supplies to the thousands of victims. But because of the delay by the Myanmar governing officials in accepting outside aid, another C-130 aircraft took its place.
He was born in Ventura and is the son of Paul and Sheila Robino of Oxnard. He received an associate degree from Ventura College, and completed his ROTC training at Loyola Marymount University while receiving his bachelor of arts degree from CSU Dominguez Hills. In 2006, he attended undergraduate pilot training at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, where he finished a the top of his class and was selected to the Commodore's List.
Graduated
Air Force Airman Paul E. Jordan has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches; and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.
Airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Delores Jordan of Camarillo and John Jordan of Abingdon, Va. Jordan is a 2003 graduate of Abingdon High School.
Mobilized
Army National Guard Sgt. Donald R. Almanza and Spec. Joseph E. Cerda have been mobilized and activated at Fort Dix, N.J., for a deployment overseas to a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. They are members of the 185th Infantry Battalion, a National Guard unit based in Fullerton.
Almanza is a squad leader with 19 years of military service. He is the son of Martina Almanza of Oxnard. The sergeant is a 1985 graduate of Hueneme High School, Oxnard.
Cerda is an infantryman with six years of military service. He is the son of Joseph S. and Jennie Cerda of Oxnard. The specialist graduated in 2000 from Hueneme High School.
