Kiwanis schedule meetings for July

The Kiwanis Club of Camarillo meets from noon to 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday at Round Table Pizza, 880 Arneill Road.

The speakers scheduled for July:

n Tuesday, Jim Bittner, head football coach at Moorpark College.

n July 15, Larry Miller, who will speak about "The State of Transitional Age Foster Youth in Ventura County."

n July 22, Cub Scout Troop 3800 recognition.

n July 29, Darryl Hallenbrook from Morgan Stanley, who will speak about dollars and sense.

Quilters to hold general meeting

Camarillo Quilters Association will hold its general meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Orchid Building, 816 Camarillo Springs Road.

Speaker will be Karen Combs, who is intrigued with quilts of illusions and has been designing quilts with a 3-D look for several years.

OXNARD

Eagles' meal to help Parkinson's research

Oxnard Eagles No. 232 will host a dinner and dance fundraiser for Parkinson's Research on Saturday at 4684 Saviers Road.

Chili verde will be served at 6 p.m., and dancing will begin after. Music will be provided by Gino and SCBII band.

Obama campaigner to speak to GOOD

A representative of the Obama '08 campaign, which is organizing in Ventura County, will speak and take questions at the monthly meeting of the Greater Oxnard Organization of Democrats (the GOOD Club) at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Café on A, 438 South A St.

SIMI VALLEY

Computer group to meet July 10

The Simi Valley Computer User Group will meet at 7:30 p.m. July 10 in the Simi Valley Library Community Meeting Room.

Orv Beach will present "Advances in the Linux Desktop."

A Linux operating system installation will also be demonstrated. All are invited.

Fly fishers reel in guest speaker

The Conejo Valley Fly Fishers meet for their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, in the Orchid Room, at the Best Western Thousand Oaks Inn, 75 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd.

Guest speaker will be Zane Mirfin, with a program on fly fishing in New Zealand.

Rochelle Sechooler to speak to Democrats

The Democratic Club of Conejo Valley will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 Janss Road.

Guest speaker will be Rochelle Sechooler. The topic will be "The Psychology of Political Persuasion."

Sechooler is a distinguished professor and teacher and is well-versed on how words can persuade voters.

Dance group to hold event Saturday

The Thousand Oaks Dance Club will hold a dance from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the Goebel Senior Adult Center, 1385 E. Janss Road.

Music will be by Denis LaPron.

The group also will hold a dance from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. July 19, with music by the Rhythm Kings.

Singles and couples are welcome. Cost is $7 for nonmembers and $5 for members. For more information, call 381-2744.

Women's Connection to hold luncheon

The Thousand Oak's Women's Connection will hold its monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Naylor's Banquet Center at the Thousand Oaks Inn, 75 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd.

The luncheon will feature "Dancing with Our Stars," a performance by Spanish dancers.

The speaker will be Shirley Pirozzi, who shares a life-threatening experience that changed her outlook on her marriage and life.

Musical guest will be Mikaela Kennedy.

VENTURA

Test pilot to speak to SAR chapter

Test pilot and lecturer Tom Morgenfeld will address the General George S. Patton, Jr. Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution at its meeting. The meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. July 11, at Marie Callender's Restaurant Garden Room, 1295 S. Victoria Ave.

Morgenfeld will describe the X-35 Joint Strike Fighter and his role as chief test pilot. A retired Navy captain, he is a fellow and past president of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots. He is a member of two Collier Trophy-winning teams and has been inducted into the Aerospace Walk of Honor.

All SAR compatriots, aviation buffs, friends and visitors are invited to the free address.

The self-pay luncheon cost per person is $15. For reservations, call Ward White at 526-9355.
