Da Cars are Coming...

Mr Sheldon Brown, owner, editor and writer par excel lance has, since I took him to task over some of his less than stellar article in his own op/ed page in the Breeze, toned his rhetoric down considerably of which I congratulate him.

Now he has written a piece on the detrimental effects the developers are having on our city. Mr Brown lives he states on Vista Del Mar looking over the 101 freeway towards the Channel Islands. Also on Vista Del Mar resides the commercial company of the Ventura Coastal Corp a company which squeezes juice out of our abundant citrus fruit. This company has been in that location for many years. They have recently, because of the economy decided to forsake this location and blend with their location in Visalia.

Now a "developer" Daly Owen Group, wants to build an upscale apartment complex on the site of the Ventura Coastal Corp. Of course, true to the nature of Venturan's the folks that live on Vista Del Mar are up-in-arms with, it appears, Mr Sheldon Brown leading the attack. Their biggest concern at this time is the amount of additional traffic that the apartment complex would generate on "their" street. Now living on Vista Del Mar with an unobstructed view of the 101 Freeway should, one would think, give these folks a very good idea of exactly what is happening with the traffic condition just about everywhere, "it's the population stupid".

I remember when I first appeared in Ventura about 35 years ago you could literally walk across the 101 Freeway at anytime of the day without fear of getting hit by a car. Now you can hardly change lanes while your driving on it.

Oh by the way, did I happen to mention that Mr Sheldon Brown, in his prior life before becoming a publishing mogul was in the construction/developing business??? My how attitudes change when we are no longer in the line of work.
