Kroger-owned stores pull ground beef from shelves

Even though July 4 is the biggest grilling holiday of the year, Kroger Co. said today it has pulled all its ground beef from most of its Southern California stores, including Ralphs, because of an E. coli scare.

Fresh ground beef products were purged from shelves Tuesday evening and replaced with signs noting the problem in meat departments.

Kroger implemented the voluntary recall after the United States Department of Agriculture identified one of its suppliers, Omaha-based Nebraska Beef Ltd, as being linked to several E. coli illnesses in Michigan and Ohio.

Cases were being restocked today with ground beef from a different supplier that was not affected by the recall, said Charles Barfield, vice president of public relations for Ralphs and Food 4 Less.

Ralphs is asking customers to check their freezers and refrigerators for any ground beef products that have a sale date from May 21 to July 3. Any ground beef, regardless of type, can be returned to the store for a full refund or replacement, Barfield said.

The recall is occurring in different degrees in about 20 states across the country, the company said.

Not every division of Kroger Co. is participating — for example, Food 4 Less was not — but most of the company was, Barfield said.

Ground beef sold in sealed tubes in one-, three- or five-pound packages and frozen ground beef patties sold in the frozen food section were not included in the recall.

For more about what meat does to your body, ready "Skinny b----." It pretty much says it all and lists all the medical reference books that the info comes from.

Jill, "Eat soy burgers and dogs. They are much better for you and don't involve cruelty." Uh, Jill dear did you ever see what a combine tractor can do to a soy bean field. Or have you ever seen how soy beans are processed into tofu? It's horrific! I say we don't eat anything anymore and save our planet, animal kingdom, and plant life from the death and destruction man has caused.

Anyone with me?
