Programs available at Girl Scout Camp Arnaz

Girl Scouts of California are offering unique summer programs at Camp Arnaz, located between Ventura and Ojai. Programs are still available for ages 6 to 17, featuring design, sports and encounters with wild animals.

The Girl Scout Council of California's Central Coast offers single-day events to weeklong day camps and resident camp programs directed by skilled camp leaders. Programs include everything from Camp Artemis in the Santa Cruz Mountains for older girls, to Laser Tag Lock-In in Santa Maria, to horse resident camps and more. Young Eagles program offers free plane rides

The Young Eagles, an Experimental Aircraft Association program designed to introduce youths to aviation, offers free airplane rides for kids 8 to 18.

Rides will be given from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Camarillo Airport, 501 Airport Drive, Camarillo, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Santa Paula Airport, 822 E. Santa Maria St., Santa Paula.

Flights last 30 to 60 minutes and give kids an opportunity to take the controls and fly the aircraft.

Oak Grove School offers visual arts scholarships

To inaugurate its upper-division, two-year, college preparatory visual arts program, Oak Grove Secondary School in Ojai is offering several $10,000 scholarships to selected incoming 11th-grade students considering a college major or minor in visual arts. The awards will be distributed over two years as a $5,000 per-year tuition discount.

Interested students should submit an application to the school, a written essay that describes their passion for art and one to three samples of their work. Applications are available at http://www.oakgroveschool.com or by calling 646-8236, ext. 109.

Located on a 150-acre rural campus in Ojai, Oak Grove weaves discovery, inquiry, global and environmental awareness into its programs that prepare students for college while nurturing a lifetime love of learning.

Recreation Department offers surf camp sessions

The Ojai Recreation Department is offering four one-week sessions of surf camp to children between the ages of 9 and 15 beginning Monday. The camps will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and will be led by surf instructor and ocean expert Warren Glaser.

Transportation and equipment will be provided by the Recreation Department. Cost is $185 per week. Space is limited, and early registration is advised.
